My dilemma — what should I wear to bed this sweltering night. Sleeping in the buff would be the coolest. But, what would I do if a fire broke out in the wee hours of the night? Would I have time to grab my bathrobe or do I run out stark naked, and join my neighbors in the front yard?

Decision made: I will sleep in my favorite sleep-wear, which consists of a baggy man's T-shirt and my skivvies. My Calico cat, Bella, was panting and looking for a cool spot to sleep. But, as I crawled into bed Bella jumped up on the bed, she took her usual spot, and snuggled up to my back. I didn’t have the heart to push her away. After which seemed like hours I fell into a restless sleep.

I was startled awake by someone banging on my front door. I sat up and listened, I am not sure if I was dreaming. Then I heard a man’s voice yelling, "It’s the police! Now, I’m wide awake! I responded with I’m coming! But with the noise of the two air conditioners running, they never heard me.

I stood up to find my bathrobe when two policemen threw open my bedroom door with flashlights searching in every corner. Then their light came around to me standing there, with one slipper on, my T- shirt hanging off my shoulder and completing my ensemble — bright red skivvies.
